Flint was removed. What you are seeing is a piece of leather used to hold the flint.
Hows this for something old school unusual but not unique?
30-06 Springfield 03A3 sporterized for hunting.This one is zeroed at 300 yards. Was last used in Alaska to shoot a Big Horn sheep before I knew better.
