Too bad the wholesale market has taken off - it seems to breed "oversight". Last week I stopped by an out of state porsche sales company I saw on the internet. Of the 12 cars they had for sale or sold, 5 their gauges out for repair. I was told they do not get many guests, surprise. They buy nationwide so they could not tell me when each stopped counting. Likely a common problem.
Being from California, the DMV requires smog certifications every 2 years. Carfax notes the mileage. Not a lot of help for a 30 year old car since I have only seen reporting go back to 1998 or so. But it is better than nothing.
