Yah that universal spring compressor is a pile of crap. The forked "foot" that sits on the spring retainer wants to walk off when you really have to apply a lot of compression to the spring. Been there done that. Thing is freakin' dangerous on stiff springs.
The one that Jeff posted is much better because it captures the entire spring/retainer. The one that Craig made is the hot setup & very sturdy. My buddy Brian made a similar one he showed me.
