So shill bids $55 and the item is unsold and relisted. Maybe the shill bids again; maybe not. In any case, I bid what it's worth to me and no more. I rarely watch the end of an auction. Too much temptation to up a bid for emotional reasons.

The trick is to have the imagination to say to yourself: 'if someone else wins this at $XX, am I okay with that, or did I put in too low a bid?' It took years to get this right. I used to use auction sniper and I used to watch. I no longer do. I bid the max dollar amount I'm comfortable with and if I lose, no regrets.
And this is the reason I no longer buy on ebay. In the past, an item with a weak description or dark pics might receive no bidding love and I could find good buys at below local market price. Now the process is so gamed with snipes and seller schill bids that prices are rigged artificially and you will pay at-or-above market price for everything. No bargains left. I live in LA where everything is at your fingertips. If I wanted to pay full pop I would just buy it on amazon or at a local dealership without all the fake auction nonsense. ebay is now rigged heavily in favor of sellers and more of a sucker play for buyers. My odds are better in Vegas so I think I'll pass thanks.

I don't chase rare one-of-a-kind parts for my 64 911 but ebay is still useful for these guys I suppose, but prices are still rigged artificially high, Wall Street style and not based on actual buyer demand. Will the last sucker ebay buyer please turn out the lights when you leave?
