Firstly - I said representation at the opening ceremony. Its symbolic for leaders of nations to put away disagreements, to share a mutual respect of man thru athletics and compete in a friendly manner. It's not to create barriers but instead to find a common link, ideology between countries.
Look at it this way. Not sure of your occupation but in many company executive post, and if visiting another company from out of town, its almost customary to get a round of golf between them. I won't go into explaining why but by doing so, there's a level of thought and interaction that helps gets things done.
Second- How many politicians here in the US actually work? We pay them anyhow so why not give them a FREE FRICKEN TRIP to the Olympics? How hard is that to do? Joe Biden busy? And Obama's excuses at the Costas interview... that was spineless to even painful.
---------- BTW: I'm in agreement the opening show was outstanding!
