Here is a pic showing the process of getting the engine cleaned up. I call this episode "The Rubber Explosion"® as pretty much every chunk of rubber in the engine compartment was toast.

I had the intake out because I found some cracked gaskets...
In the process of removing the intake I found the fuel line crimps were so gone that the hose would spin around like a bearing...
In the process of removing the gaskets I discovered the plastic intake spacers were crumbling...
In the process of rerouting the the vacuum lines I found one was cracked about a third of the way around...
In the process of reattaching the large (1") plastic breather hose I discovered that it was so brittle it fractured when I tried to reconnect it to the engine...
In the process of installing the brand new large breather hose I discovered it was actually made of very soft rubber so the old one was WAY beyond toast...

I did get the engine nice and cleaned (With some help. My back was completely out at this point...). Notice the nice block off plates for the intake that I built. Nice to have in the toolbox.
Once it was done it idled and ran better then it had in years.
Gee, I wonder why?
