Years ago one of my buddies had a Chevy Nova with a very high compression cammed up engine. It would just barely idle and if you touched the throttle it just took off. I rode with him once back from a restaurant in the rain and it was terrifying. To roll on the throttle the least amount got the posi rear end spinning and we would start going sideways. He finally stopped and set the idle up a little higher and we drove home at idle.
With modern fuel injection and traction control it is likely OK to have a crazy HP street engine. Not back then.
