I learned long ago to bid in the last few seconds for something I really want on Ebay. I do my due diligence and wait. I often see items go over what I think they are worth to me during the last few minutes and then choose not to bid.
The sales I don,t like are the low priced no reserve ones that get pulled in the last few minutes because the price hasn,t gone high enough. So much for the idea of no reserve.
Best buy I ever made was a 34 ft sailboat which was damaged during transit.I had asked questions and reviewed pics etc.
It sat at about $5000 until the last 10 minutes when it rose to about $8500 . I threw $12501.99 at it with 30 seconds to go. It ratcheded up faster than I could refresh the screen. I got it for $12501.00. $ .99 less than my max bid. Seller told me later bids were coming in from as far away as Sweden. Repaired it for about $6500 used it a year and sold it for $38k.
