Bill, I load 40 grain Hornady V-Maxes in my .223. It's a Remington 700 with a 14" twist barrel. They shoot great, and I think within the range and velocity limitations of the .223, they are a very good bullet. Incidentally, I also shoot the 60 grain V-Max or 60 grain Sierra in the same rifle with good results. You should have no trouble with the 12" twist and 52-60 grain bullets, if you wind up stuck with them for the time being.
Primers, brass, and component bullets are once again more or less available here. Powder is lagging behind, though. I don't pay any attention to the availability of loaded ammo (since I don't buy any), but my shooting buddies who do say it's not bad as far as availability again. It might be awhile before it trickles down to your corner of the world, though.
