I agree to a point. The foreign cars that we (I'm a Gen Xer) loved in the 70-80s are few and far between these days. There is a growing following for Japnaese cars from that era but there are hardly any left.

It is not just a question of what specific model we were driving, but what we aspired to -- but couldn't afford. And those were foreign cars, too:
Porsches, Ferrari, Lotus, Lamborghini, etc. Only to a lesser extent Mustang GT, and Corvettes -- and those were matched by RX-7s, Z-cars, Supras, and the NSX.
