Thanks. '72s are kind of a specialty of mine. I've had 8 or 9 over the past 10 years.

My opinion is the mechanic is a bit high (not necessarily in a psychotropic way) on the price he's estimating. Only because of the color change. In the original color, with a glass-out repaint, yes, $45K. But I'd ding it $7-8K for the color change. So I'd be just a bit beyond your price, Matt, but not much. Say $37-38K.

Disclaimer: many many details can add or subtract from that valuation.


Addendum: Nearly every 911 coupe of that era I've seen has some degree of rust in the firewall/rear shelf panel and usually the seat buckets are affected as well. Judicious probing with an icepick (and the seller's permission!) will tell a lot about the rust status. That bit in front of the tank is insignificant, but there's a boxed area just forward of that that is likely corroding away. Bottom of the door striker panels is another vulnerable spot: rust comes in from underneath... moral of this story: poke and probe any pre-galvanized Porsche.
