I have been decaf only since the late 80s. Im kind of a hyper guy so I don't need the caffeine. I consider it a public service keeping me off caffeine. That said, I have always liked the smell and the taste.

My favorite is Dark Magic Decaf Kurig. I like strong decaf...how's that for an oximoron. I like Dunkin Decaf and for cheap stuff, I like folgers. If you want really cheap, the decaf from walmart isn't that bad either, you just have to use more to get a nice thick taste. I tend to take my coffee pretty strong...without sugar.

I don't like starbucks decaf...tastes burnt and empty. I am sort of anti-starbucks though, so I am sure there is a psychosomatic component.

Regarding the "what's the point" comment. I know it is only in jest, but it does get annoying that about half the people who see I only drink decaf say this exact quote, usually a few times a month. If the point is to get caffeine, why not just take a caffeine pill?

Interesting point. A while back I used to work with a caffeine researcher. He said that some experienced coffee drinkers can tell as little of a 1 mg difference (standard cup I think is about 100 mg). That said, I do not think there is much of flavor component to caffeine.
