I believe blues were called "can't buy me blue" in the '80s because everybody wanted white, red, silver, or black and blue cars tended to sit on the lot. I believe my car sat on the lot for over a year before it was sold.
Ironically, as we're seeing now, blues are a bit more rare and command a premium over the more common Porsche colors.
