The "GE" block 77-79 bus engine I had came with an L-jet type of FI. So there are basically NO interchangable parts. It is basically the same as the 914 1.8L L-Jet but as you said the calibration would be completely different.

It is possible that other year Transporters had D-Jet but I doubt it. Key indicators of a D-Jet is the brain is about 1.5 times the size, the distributor has a 3 pin plug on the side, and there is a manifold absolute pressure sensor vs. the air flow meter on a L-Jet.

From my fumbling around with it the wiring harnesses don't look like they would even swap. Also I've heard the injectors are different resistences so swapping them is a bad idea too.
