i do a long trip every year - cleveland to hershey to baltimore to atlantic city to philly to nyc to cleveland in my 83. a good gps, good radar, AAA (or something similar), a cell phone and a credit card are all you need. maybe plan an extra day or 3 for each leg of the trip if something comes up, but other than a very thorough pre-trip inspection on the car not much more is needed.
