Although they generally made more Coupes per year than Targas or Cabriolets, since 1983, the combined production numbers of "open air cars" are significantly larger than the number of coupes.
So if you are an "open air car fan" (like me) you have two models to choose from -- a Targa or a Cab, representing ~60-65% of a given year's production volume.
If you want only a Coupe, you are choosing from only ~35-40% of production.
Supply and demand drives the perception of scarcity.
