I-40 in western NM and all of Arizona is quite beautiful. Plenty of distractions along the way. You can always bail off in Seligman and take Route 66 to Kingman. Won't be a lot slower than the interstate and really breaks up the HURRY HURRY YOU'RE ON THE INTERSTATE feeling.
