Bill's second video indicates the hyper-giant is one million times brighter than the sun and is (only) 12,000 LY from us. Says "making it one of the most distant stars you can see at night with the naked eye." 1200 times the diameter of our sun.

It's in our galaxy (has to be), which is 100,000 LY across.

I don't even know if Hubble can pick pick out stars in detail in neighboring galaxies. Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million LY away.

These stars (I think) are almost real time in the big picture.
