If the unplanned turn was programmed into the computer before the last verbal communication, those "two minutes" were not when the most critical decision was made - the decision to divert the plane. They wouldn't have calmly said "goodnight" over the radio without mentioning that they decided 12 minutes ago that they were going somewhere other than their scheduled destination.
