Pax headlight turned out to be the usual dreaded broken ground wire. Soldered it back together and re-wrapped everything and it turned out just fine.
Will go with pureview's H4 harness very soon - excellent product, BTW, but really really wanted to get this one solved before I moved on.
The new harness will bypass the pax side lighting loom anyway, and would have been the ideal workaround had I not traced the fault to its source - but... :-)
Another squawk bites the dust!
