There's no sense in making extra work for yourself and those nuts are in a recessed area of the bumper. You won't get them off without screwing up the bumper or the studs, or both.

Thanks for the tip, are there any threads detailing how to access the nut on the bumper shock without first removing the bumper itself?
Also, I should add that the impact bumper removal is part of yet another backdate "inspired" project, so I will need to remove the bumper shocks anyhow..
