It sounded like it was coming from a round, glass-topped torch lamp in the corner of our living room. We were in the kitchen. Did the glass lamp shade somehow resonate at the frequency of the seismic waves?

I've heard of people reporting flashes of light when an earthquake hits, the explanation being that crystals like quartz become electrically charged when squeezed- piezoelectric effect. I suppose it is possible they emit a high-pitched frequency but I would think the dog would hear it more often/before any human would. I don't think you could get enough energy at the right frequency transmitted into a piece of glass to cause it to resonate audibly. Maybe she heard a distant siren or car alarm.
