The Americans are withdrawing from Afghanistan; one of their command and control system (used for controlling pilotless drones) was hijacked by the Taliban when an American transport convoy was moving down from one of the hill-top bases. Personally, I think someone's imagination has been working overtime on this, at least that's what I hope.
The first paragraph kills it for me and is there remote control in civilian aircraft?
I doubt that very much. It would be way too expensive to install and maintain and there's no way that could be kept secret from the general public.
