Loved my 2002 eventhough it was a dog with a slush box. I just can't see paying that kind of coin on something like that unless you really had a love affair with the 2002 or something... Would probably be better to start with a ground up restoration considering the condition and work needed.
I would think it over... There are a lot of great cars to be had in that price range... heck the 8k you're talking about to start with would get you a very decent XK8 convertible, Vette, etc... If you're talking reliability and performance, 8k can still get you a fairly clean 944 with low mileage. Performance and grocery room...
