Go over 17 and you can stop at Canepa's in Scotts Valley
. Your best bet is really heading out of San Jose. 17 turns into 880 after you get over the hill and the airport is right off the Coleman exit. The drive up HWY1 from Monterey to Santa Cruz is pretty nice and leisurely. Once into Santa Cruz it's only 30-35 minutes to SJC.
Monterey Airport has been stepping it up a notch so if you don't want the drive, you can fly out of there on another airline.
