I'm a Polar Region member in Edmonton and was formerly involved in the WWR prior to moving to Edmonton in 2002.
The main reason I pay my PCA dues is for the Panorama magazine.
I attend very few events and I'm not very involved in the club. Most local events are too pricy or not family friendly (two young daughters). Of course this can only be addressed by talking directly with the local region and being more involved.
All in all being a PCA member is not a bad thing, but like everything else you'll only get the return or value for your money by being active and contributing in a positive or constructive manner.
