Sounds like me picking up a near NIB 1991 vintage 10/22 with fancy maple stock, and before shooting it sendign the trigger out for work, the bolt out (headspace, polish, extractor/ejector work, pin firing pin), and hte barrel out (set back a hair and recut chamber to match tolerances) before even shooting the darn thing.
Except the difference is in the fact that the mods I'm having done will make it an excellent shooter
