Helps with attitude in general since most of the people I deal with at work that don't seem to have a clue about how to do their job are womens.
Example:
Marketing person wants to send a 1 gig file to our Russian representative. 20 meg is the limit for and attachment in Outlook so we have an ftp server that lets you Drop Ship large files. Glen uses this feature on his company email account on my email server. It is pretty simple, you go to the drop ship screen using your web browser, select the file from a popup that shows the files on your hard drive. Enter the recipients email, enter your email, and there is a place to put any message you want to include, Then you click upload. After the file finishes uploading the server sends and email to both you and your recipient with a link you can click and it download the file with your web browser. After 14 days the uploaded file is automatically deleted from the ftp server AND there is no access to the file except thru the link that is emailed.
This chick says the emails are not being sent to the recipient just her and she has to forward the email with the link to the intended recipient. I uploaded and sent working links to my personal email, company email, yahoo, gmail, and a russion account I have to manage our Russian distributors email. The marketing chick's solution is to make a public folder for her to upload this 1 gig file to so she can send an email to the Russian rep of where to find the file on the ftp server so they can browse the ftp server and download the file, then after they get the file, they tell her and she goes and deletes it. Then she asks if she can give access to just certain files to certain people for security.
I do not understand how her way is any easier than either the drop ship with the correct recipient email, or forwarding the drip ship email it send to your email?!. She is acting like her solution is something new and improved!!!
Argh....people.
Oh yeah, the current version of the drop ship puts a copy of an encrypted link on your copy/paste clipboard after the upload is finished so you can just go paste it into an email.
She won't tell me what the file is...we have all kinds of artwork, literature, tech specs, manuals, and even videos and NOTHING is anywhere near 1 gig. I can't imagine what would be 1 gig that you would want to make available for public download.
