There's always a trade off with stuff like this.
On the minus side: price, and IRS is not as durable for hard launches that are so common in drag race scenarios. I am not into the 1/4 mile, but I believe the current setup of the 'stang is more desireable in that venue.
On the plus side: for racetracks that are not glass smooth, and for roads that are also not glass smooth, the IRS is more desireable and not only keeps the tires in better contact with the road surface, it also has a more complaint ride.
For the Northeast and me, an IRS Mustang makes more sense.
