Hmm, Ken, you have an interesting point there. My expansion tank in the front fender looks to be in good condition. But I didn't replace those hoses and perhaps they are holding fuel and dry rotted thus creating the smell. It would explain the strong smell in the wheel well.






I wonder how difficult it will be to get to the filler neck from underneath. I wonder if I'll need to remove the fender? Anyone know?
