Not sure what car you have. I put a 964 lid on my 73 targa with Carrera 3.2 engine, and it helped my oil temps by 10 - 15 deg. and I kinda like the look too... 
My butt aero analysis also says the rear is more planted at speed with the spoiler deployed... >>
