I am about to swap the engine on my S2 cab. I was planning on doing it from the bottom but based on what I am reading in this thread I am going to try from the top and save having to take out the suspension / crossmember etc. I think I will remove the radiator to make some extra room.

Since you are leaving the rack and suspension in place no need for an alignment after the swap. Bonus!
