I remember not having a clutch alignment tool so i did the clutch pressure plate up thru the starter hole in the bellhousing ,worked out ok,remember the exhaust flange bolts being a real PITA to get done up.
Going out the bottom never made any sense to me,didn't that idea come from the truely awful haynes book on the model  ,to me it was like having your head removed to fix a tooth cavity  .
