I didn't log into my account for a long time and, around October last year, got an email about my checking account balance being below $100. I had just gotten paid a few days earlier, so I was panic-stricken.

Turns out I had deposited about $1300 in person at a share branch in Phoenix in August, as my credit union is in the US Capitol Bldg. and has no branches out here. I always use checking and never money market. I might have $5 in that mm account. Despite my deposit slip and verbal instructions, the teller deposited it into the mm account and not checking. So I was $1300 short in my checking account for all that time. Really chapped my ass, but it's my own fault for not keeping closer track of things. They have since gotten the smart phone check-scanning app going, so that's how I make all deposits now and can confirm immediately it went to the right account.
