There have been posts on this topic in various forums quite recently. A Google search should turn up the threads.
What I found when considering a warranty is that it was hard to find one that would definitely cover IMS issues for a 12 year old car (I have a 2002). The cost of the warranty was also high. I ended up not pursuing it figuring that I would spend the money on preventative maintenance.
