FWIW,

Before I got my 911, I had a '67 912 Targa that a school bus used for a brake (while I was in it). While the rear was messed up, the longitudals cracked and engine mounts torn, I was only shaken up a bit and drove it 70 miles to the body shop for inspection before the insurance company totalled it.

To me, that is a testimony to a pretty stout car.

What a lot of folks seem to forget is, (that for the earleir cars) part of the design basis was the idea you can buy your Porsche from the dealer, and with minimal prep, drive it safely the next day on a track. Can you do that with most other cars, even those sold today?
