That is one factor, another is US wheat which was modified almost 50 years ago by exposure to radiation to develop mutant hybrids that out produce European wheat 10 fold per acre. This stuff is so messed up not even God knows what it's really doing us.

Brazil and China are now big US wheat importers, watch their bodies inflame/expand just like ours.

A Reliable Supply
Brazil imports more wheat than any other country except Egypt. Its primary supplier Argentina has an advantage over U.S. wheat supplies because it enjoys duty-free access to its Brazilian trading partner. But Argentina has not been able to provide a reliable supply and USW works hard to keep Brazilian millers up-to-speed on U.S. wheat value and quality. The seemingly relentless increase in Chinese demand for commodities extends to imports of high-quality U.S. wheat, which jumped in 2011/12 and exceeded 29.3 million bushels of HRS, SW, SRW and HRW in 2012/13.

Modern wheat has been hybridized (crossing different strains to generate new characteristics; 5% of proteins generated in the offspring, for instance, are not present in either parent), backcrossed (repeated crossing to winnow out a specific trait, e.g., short stature), and hybridized with non-wheat plants (to introduce entirely unique genes). There are also chemical-, gamma-, and x-ray mutagenesis, i.e., the use of obnoxious stimuli to induce mutations that can then be propagated in offpspring. This is how BASF’s Clearfield wheat was created, for example, by exposing the seeds and embryos to the industrial chemical, sodium azide, that is highly toxic to humans.
