eric - bang on - i was actually able to ADD some timing in a few spots on a couple of maps, which helped a lot with flat spots. also, being able to pull fuel from some areas, but add it in others, really helped smooth out the curve. for example, there is a spot at 5k, in about a 700rpm band, that needed fuel pulled out, but before and after it, it needed to be aded. you just don't have that kind of control with regulators. as you say, with the abundance of stuff out there now, there is no reason to compromise with such antiquated and limited technology.
