Mitchell didnt commence the design of the Spitfire until 1936.The Schneider Trophy Supermarine seaplanes raced in '34 and '35.
The Mustang was designed in 6 weeks apparently to meet a UK design requirement.
Most if not all Mustangs probably had Packard assembled Rolls-Royce Merlins.
The Mosquito in my view was an even better looking plane than the Spitfire, and considerably faster.
