Planning the trip to Monterey from BC and would like to go off the I-5 and enjoy some nice driving roads.

For you folks from Washington, Oregon and California, any suggestions? Are there other folks meeting up along the way?

I will be enjoying the trip with my 14 year old navigator, and would appreciate suggestions on interesting stops, cool museums etc..
