The 7R magnesium engine case and the 915 transmission were improved for the 1973. And say what you will, as far as the 73T CIS, it was an improved design for better fuel management for a regularly driven 911. MFI is cool but more finiky, and carbs have it's draw, but the cis worked well and was good enough till Motronic replaced it in the '84 Carrera. SC owners all seem very happy with their cars.
And Yes, those 4 rubber baby buggy bumpers are ugly.
