There is a nice section in Clarks garage on sorting dashboard lights. The bulbs go dull/fail over time and the silvering off the reflectors flakes off/dulls. Can all be fixed relatively easily ... but you have other priorities
Good luck with your project! I bought a good low km running well maintained '91 S2 and there is enough work for me just keeping up with the daily maintenance
