996 and 997 are very easy to do your own work. Brakes and serp belt, water pump, spark plugs and coil packs and stuff like that. Even the clutch is a basic job if you have a lift and a tool that my friend made to hold up the engine on the cross member. If you can spin a wrench you can have a good time with a 997. Ive seen them a lot cheaper that 50,000 but they are the basic Carrera and not an S or C4 or C4s.
