Racing In All Its Forms!
I know F1 gets all the attention here, but it is an interesting MotoGP season too. Yes, Marc Marquez has won every race, but like greyhounds chasing the mechanical rabbit, Lorenzo, Rossi and Pedrosa are putting up terrific fights and getting closer to him with each race. Rossi's run at the Spanish GP was terrific to watch, and Pedrosa and Marquez' see-saw battle in the closing laps had me on the edge of my seat. It is incredible to watch them sliding both ends through the turns, the tires deforming and the bike slithering under power. I'm thrilled to see Rossi back at the sharp end, after two awful years with Ducati, and the season is almost like a Back To The Future, if you could pit the young Rossi (Marquez) against the old (not really) Rossi.
Over in the human powered arena, this has been a terrific bike racing season. Milan-San Remo was a brutal man-against-weather test, the hard men lit up the classics, the Colombian wave is gathering force with Quintana's overpowering win of the Giro d'Italia, and the Tour de France is going to be fantastic with Contador back at full form, Froome looking human after all, and the sprint shoot-out between Cavendish and Kittel.
I wish, wish, wish I could see rally racing here. Every now and then I catch little highlights and am always excited to see Kubica in action again. I really wonder if he might not be able to make a return to F1 someday. Surely if you're fit enough to drive a rally car, you can take a swing at F1?
Viva racing!
