On the topic of magic potions and miracle products - I have occasionally used something that I call an " Instant Engine Rebuild in a Can". It is HD 50 weight automotive motor oil. Not 10w-50 or 20w-50, etc... just straight 50w motor oil. Although you can sometimes find it at a few specialty petroleum outlets, now-a-days it most often must be ordered in.
Naturally this is only a temporary low budget, band-aid type repair, but it does extend the life of a worn out engine. Even now I have an old million mile 4x4 Mitsubishi Raider that I leave out in the woods at a summer cabin in Colorado that runs great and sounds like a new one. No smoke, no knocks, no rattles - just haul in a hot battery with some fresh gas and you're on your way up any dirt trail in the area. Of course you can't get it started in cold weather unless you (literally) stick a large propane heater under the oil pan for a couple of hours. Once you have her running - It's a miracle......
