I am lucky that I don't have a commute so I can travel off the rush hours. So traffic is usually not too bad for me. I've had more problems with traffic in Santa Barbara when driving home from college on a Friday than I've had in LA, which shows you how much I drive in LA- I try to avoid it. My drive to and from Parade was awesome, though. I saw so much new scenery and drove so many new roads. I took the scenic route and tried to avoid the 101 mostly.

My wife is from El Centro and I worked for a software company in Brawley for several years so we go back to see her family and our friends. I was born and raised in SW Wisconsin and we decided to raise our family here instead of southern California 20 miles from a third world country.
I have friends in Broken Arrow, OK and my sister lived in Washington, NC plus other travels I have been to almost all the
states you Stijners live in. I have not been to Pete's state. All the states seem to seem to have areas that are pretty nice. The road from Butterfield Ranch to Julien is a better road than the tail of the dragon in my opinion.
I have a friend that is a nurse in Alaska and wouldn't mind visiting, but not in the winter time. They leave the bulldozer running all winter or it won't start again until spring and have no power lines to where she is at, it is all generator power. She enjoys hunting and trapping and generally enjoys the lifestyle. She did miss indoor plumbing but then they remodeled her cabin so she doesn't have to share the loo with moose and bears.
