I have a Supra.
To answer your question - only the extremely well built (verifiably), clean and low mileage cars sell for a premium. A lot of guys shoot for the stars, but the cars mostly don't sell for the asks that you're referring to.
Stock, low mileage cars still more often bring the premium. It's similar to the Porsche world. If you're car was build by Alois or Andial, then it'll sell for the premium you're referencing. Supra's are similar. Yes, they're going up in value, but they also get beat on more than Pcars too...so finding clean ones are pretty hard. Production numbers on the MKIV were low. Last year in the states was '98. There are only a few thousand around in the US...as far as MKIV cars are concerned. Toyota priced itself out of the market with that platform.
