Short memories again on this one!
From what I remember and check me if my memory is getting flawed- but the car was used for testing in 1969 and the engine was either pulled or was blown up. Thus when Porsche picked their works cars from the batch, they sold off the rest to private parties and this one went to Siffert without an engine. Siffert had a Porsche Dealership and it was to be his show piece, but he died! A year prior to his death, the Movie people could rent or got to borrow this car for cheap, due to it not having an engine, so it was painted the Gulf colors and was the car used for alot of the still shots such as the final victory scene. Porsche had lent an engine to them just for show, and the car was used for static scenes or as a backdrop and wasn't the car ran on the track for filming. Then immediately after the Movie filming was done, Porsche took back their engine. Thus the car has no racing history!!! It was painted by the movie people, and even the barn find back in 2001 was staged is what I remember. I think it was in about 2008 that this was all proved out. The car that did the speed shots and such was the 025 car that I think was sold to the Fittipaldi family. Thus it is a real chassis with is a good thing, but considering the history, it should be interesting to see where it is bid to!
