Remember one year at grandma's the local Jaycees fireworks stand in the Walmart parking lot was selling 4 for 1. My dad gave me 8 bucks to get fireworks and I came home with 4 grocery sacks full. It was a small town and it was a good thing I was able to get so many firecrackers and bottle rockets cause all the local neighborhood kids had a fireworks war. We were throwing firecrackers, shooting bottle rockets and even firing off nigger chasers (that's what they were called, big bottle rockets without a stick, didn't aim very well, but caused a lot of panic.) at each other. The only thing off limits was roman candles, m80s and cherry bombs. It was gloriously fun and amazingly nobody got hurt and nothing got set on fire.
As part of the prep you would take an 800 string of firecrackers and separate them into singles and put them in a paper grocery sack. That's what you carried as a main ammo bag. Well, this pop bottle rocket went right into my paper sack. Fsssst, pow pow, pow, then I dropped the bag and ran. The bottle rocket set off the 800 some odd loose firecrackers almost all at once. It made a white ball about 2 ft in diameter that was less and less dense as it dispersed lit firecrackers in all directions out as far as 25 ft. It was like you see at the pro fireworks displays only this was on the ground in the middle of my grandmothers driveway. it didn't last very long but it sure was cool.
Tried several times to do a repeat performance but just never had anything light off almost all at once like that.
Oh and I swept up all blown up paper in grandma's driveway before we went home.
