Talk of long rides, I'm almost finished with this 1956 retro / preservation fun bike and will surely do a few century club rides. In two weeks I'll be on a very hilly - roller coaster 60 miler with it.
I've been riding it yet have to complete a few details and dialing-in. Comically, it climbs with ease and surprised me how incredible it rolls and coast along. Beautiful machined Austrian Styria hub's and vintage 28" Michelins on early Weinmann aluminum rims. The rims have no hook bead and are single wall. A test of confidence if running a low PSI and at higher speed descents. Running at 80psi seems just about right.
Haven't figured the gear inches but its a mountain goat plus tall gearing for high speed. The trick: 3 speed IGH plus 3 speed plunger rear derailleur plus 2 speed chainring.
